The final version of the proposed “three strikes” anti-piracy code for Australian internet service providers (ISPs) has been published recently. Under the Copyright Notice Scheme code (PDF), residential Internet users that are found pirating content will be subject to a series of "escalating" warning notices from rights holders, sent via ISPs. The notices will warn users that they are infringing copyright, and that they will face legal action if they get three strikes recorded against their IP address -- that is, if they receive an Education, Warning and Final notice -- within a 12 month period. If a user gets three warning letters, or "strikes", in a 12-month period, ISPs will help copyright owners identify them for potential legal action after a hearing in a prescribed court. Up to 200,000 notices can be processed and sent each year. An industry code has to be in place by January 1

Over the past few months, thousands of Canadians have received ‘Piracy Notices’ in their mailbox asking for cash settlements. The new law aims to reduce piracy in Canada, but it seems Canadians are not ready to give up on their habits. After paying no attention to hundreds of notices from anti-piracy group named Rightscorp, the users are now sued over sharing the 20+ year-old music albums.

French government agencies sent out over 5 million warnings to alleged pirates. 169 Internet users were referred to the public prosecutor in the first half of 2016, which is 4 times for than in the same period last year

Such regimes are used in many countries and are commonly known as “three-strikes”. However, they are promoted as educational in nature, because suspected pirates just receive notifications of breach, which are meant to discourage further infringing behavior.

To prevent their IP-addresses from being visible to the rest of the Internet, millions of people have signed up to a VPN service. Using a VPN allows users to use the Internet anonymously and prevent your ISP from tracking your online activity. The best VPN services don’t log any traffic nor session data of any kind. Besides, 100% anonymous VPN should accept payments via anonymous payment methods like Bitcoin.

Recently, a part of ExtraTorrent community launched a VPN called by Trust.Zone VPN for safe torrenting. This VPN project cares about safety of ET members and every downloader. Trust.Zone VPN prevents your ISP from sending Copyright Infringement Notices by hiding your real location and your real IP address.

What's a VPN?

It's a tool that hides your IP address and your identity, it encrypts traffic and has no logging, so, your IP address will never be revealed and you will be 100% anonymous while torrenting. Government or your ISP can't track your activity. With a VPN, you are free to download any files you need without any risk.

Trust.Zone has founded by the part of ExtraTorrent community. The tool is free to use first 3 days of usage. If test period ends, unfortunately, the service asks for the money from you but..... our partners tried to make it as CHEAP as possible, you can catch EXCLUSIVE DEAL specially for ExtraTorrent Fans for only $2.99/mo (click here) - it's the cheapest price among all popular VPN providers.

Protect yourself with VPN - Save ExtraTorrent!

No avatarIf you download an entire movie for example then you can easily get caught (if not using a VPN).

However, try this:

Download the movie in 1/2 or 1/3 or 1/something and use different isp's for remaining parts.

They can only see random data being downloaded since it is not a while item.

The more you break up the download via different isp's the less likely you will have a problem.

Take Star Wars for example. Download 1/3 of it from one ISP, another 1/3 from another ISP, and the rest from a 3rd isp. I don't suggest finishing the download from your own home. The different ISP's can be:
1) your home (to start the download)
2) A restaurant or similar.
3) Another free wifi place.

The more the better.

Different ISP's have different IP's.

Also use encryption as much as you can.

That prevents casual observers from seeing what you are doing.

Which ISP will they send any notices to? By doing the above they triple or multiply the amount of any notices IF they catch you. And how many downloads are being done world wide?
If 250,000 notices had to be sent one week, and everyone spread their downloads amongst 3 or more other isp's, they would have to mail out a million the following week.

The more that do this the more costly it becomes for them.
Like a school (shoal) of fish - there is safety in numbers and the numbers are additional isp's.

I don't want things going out just as much as things coming in, especially when I don't know who or what they are for. I recommend it for some of you on ET, including those doomsaying crazy users that think the world is a giant conspiracy. [You know who are... most of you anyway]
What I want to figure out is how to get around the "Ver-1-z0n F10z" modem that tracks the traffic using it. I have 5 housemates and the one controlling the modem is a bit too Big Brother about conservative values on the internet. I tried a few prank virii and keyboard panics to trip up his laptop if he starts prowling what I do, but no dice. Usually the names of the URL are all he needs to know what people are doing. Our internet speed is high, but also expensive so I can't afford to hit out solo on the bill. Anybody got a workaround, or ideas where to find a workaround?

brianic2012 avatarThis Is From a "More Recent" Article on Torrentfreak

The Article Is Named:" PIA Runs VPN Traffic Through VPN to Avoid BitTorrent Ban"

It’s no secret that millions of people use VPN services to make sure that their BitTorrent download habits remain private.

Several large datacenters are no longer allowing BitTorrent-heavy services on their networks. In response, VPN service provider Private Internet Access is routing traffic in a few countries through a separate VPN. While this may affect connection speeds, the provider prefers the option over an outright ban.

This is a valid reason, but since many torrent users share copyrighted material, it also presents problems for VPN providers.

Increasingly, datacenters around the world are banning services with heavy BitTorrent traffic due to the vast amount of copyright infringement notices they trigger.

posted by (2015-11-05 21:12:38)
No avatarThanks for the article tip! Now Air vpn has banned me completely as I sent a new support req, as they didn't reply to the first one. And to be clear, I was perfectly friendly asking why the browsers leak with their vpn. They did refund me, but no responses at all. Their customer service really sucks, if this is all they can do. Definitely the worst customer service I've ever received, I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them.

I'll try PIA or Trust.Zone. Anyone using trust.zone and want to share their experience?

noel2u2 avatarYou should use a VPN. You could start by supporting Extratorrent's Trust.Zone because I have looked around and it is the best so far in value. I can only tell you in my experience and the VPN service I use.. and I paid up a 12 month subscription before I heard of trust.Zone.. I joined Private Internet Access (PIA) and it cost me nearly $60.00 US per year because the Australian currency has dropped a lot. I can tell you that PIA has two servers in Oz and run near full speed. The majority of the time I am downloading, my download speed on VPN is often 1.5 Megabytes per second which is pretty darn good. I can upload at 700 Kbits per second. The servers are in Melbourne and Sydney and I am 4 thousand kilometres West and get these speeds. I am on copper wire from the telephone exchange which is about a kilometre away or 400 metres as the crow flys. Don't gamble.. get Trust.Zone today. And anyone out there, how about telling us how to pay by bitcoin.

posted by (2015-11-07 12:48:49)
noel2u2 avatarI would like to let those of you who do run a VPN understand that like Private Internet Access (PIA) who incorporates a "kill switch" so that when your Internet for some reason drops you offline, then so does your VPN and you suddenly find yourself quite naked to your service provider (ISP). Private Internet Access (PIA) appears to have based it's software program and the "kill switch" function around the modem IP address "" and if your modem uses that.. and your Internet drops off.. then the "kill switch" will protect you by Blocking all "incoming" and "outgoing" data. But if you are in Australia, and you are with Telstra Australia, your Telstra provided modem will have the address "" and the PIA's "kill switch" will not protect you. You get around this by "NOT" using the Telstra provided modem, and use an off the store shelf modem you purchase yourself that has the very needed "" IP address. Be wise and protect yourself, because when that little "green" icon turns "red".. they are watching you!!!

posted by (2015-11-07 18:38:09)
BaBaDapper avatarOh damn it not more complications (above post with Kill switch modification). Don't know anything about that but I do have PIA and I am liking it.

For the people who are being rejected from their VPNs always dyor. I was amazed to see HMA held user data for 90 days or more! gulp! I first tried Slick but got a message saying something about DNS setting needing changing. tbh I'm a complete anti-nerd so threw in the towel right there. This was part of the free trial so I got my money back no questions asked. PIA stacks up pretty well imo and has history. The only thing I am ikky about is their USA links.

Guy above saying they have two servers in Aus but if you notice you can get more than one IP from each site (more than 2 servers in Aus?).

Also I did a lot of work with PIA support because when I double checked PIA was saying connected but really whats my ip gave my actual IP. So I still always double check but since having PIA support tweak my settings it has been 100% fine.

I also must recommend 'ip magnet' - smart little thing that shows you what your torrent client is putting out as your ip.

and that should be how it is, thats like saying its illegal to record a radio or tv show.

when cassette recorders and vcr's came out they flipped out, same with scanners, they were even forced to make scanners slow to not compete with photocopy machines.
they always say they lose money, but there is no proof they lose any at all...
if that was the case, why do we always hear about how much they make on movies all the time?
they just want to get money for the crap they release and don't want people to preview anything.

"most countries downloading isn't illegal, its uploading that is illegal."
This is the thinking of most people, and it is true that uploading has more dangers. But this makes people avoid uploading and avoid seeding. Because seeding is uploading. That is the reason of the selfish behaviour of many people, who want to grab stuff but not give back to the community

It the first two weeks there were some startup problems but since then, it has been rock solid. I turn it on and forget it. The speed has never wavered. It has been as fast with it as without it. I download and upload at maximum cable speed with is 30meg down and 5 meg up. So easy to set up. They have step by step screen shots on how to set up the servers. You have over two dozen servers in the world to hook up. I use the US and Canada servers. I highly recommend them. I liked them so much I added another year on my first year when they were running their special. Also paid for a friend of mine to get on at that reduced rate. Go get it and never worry about he notices. I run 24/7 and since Trust Zone installed no notices. Prior, I received two in a month.

No avatarBefore I started using a VPN, I noticed something very interesting. I torrented avidly for years using a DSL ISP with no ties to a cable or other media company and never once got a letter or had my service suspended. I then moved into a house with cable internet and our service was interrupted w/in a week by their "security" department. When I called they told me that someone at our address had downloaded ______ episode of a showtime series. I told them that our router was acting up and defaulted to open (no security) everytime we had to hard reset it. I figured that was a plausible way to explain without admitting any wrongdoing by anyone in our household. What I took away from it was that the cable company was actively watching it's customers to prevent them from downloading anything so that they could sell more premium channels while a pure ISP with no other horse in the race didn't seem to care unless they received a notice from a copyright holder.

No avatarIt is quite difficult to use a vpn while using linux. I tried using some of the free vpn's like openvpn and it won't work.
Some free wifi's block vpn if they detect it.
I know a particular hospital free wifi that blocks nearly everything.

Paying for a VPN links your account to your use.
Paying for a VPN also links your identity (via credit card) to their service.

One well written court order can force them to record everything you do and turn it over to the courts.

BaBaDapper avatarZolar isn't that the same as not using a VPN. You pay your ISP, who often know your land address too, they know what IP you were on at such and such a time and date.

I feel with a VPN you have one more layer of security, not a layer of insecurity.

Anyway repeat question. Anymore PIA users finding they are being identified as using a proxy with capatchas etc. Even one pop-up from ET says "Anonymous Proxy Detected".

Air VPN never failed me.Use a VPN behind a VPN or connect VPN through Tor. And what most people forget, don't leave a papertrail.Don't pay with creditcard, only pay with anonymous with for example Paysafecard.Don't forget to pay with cash when buying the paysafecard in your local store. Or buy a prepaid creditcard with cash like Visa 3V and only use it to pay your VPN. Don't buy something in an onlinestore with it that connects to your homeadress

I have never heard of anyone receiving a Copyright Infringement Notices here, but can't say if anyone has or not. I never did until now. In all the years I never had a VPN I never received anything. I've had a VPN for a few months and last night I received two Copyright Infringement Notices in my email account from my VPN. I never thought of the need of a VPN, but recently moved to a compound and share my connection so got one then. Now the VPN emailed me the notices and then sent me a letter that I need to digitally sign saying I received the notices and also will not download copyright material again. They locked my account until I sign and agree. When I expained I was not aware of this and would have corrected the issue when the first incident took place if I was notified then they said there was nothing they could do until I admit by signing the letter. When I thought I was protected by them not having any logs or my information I was wrong. They explained that its true the company sending me the notices has no idea who I am and doesn't know my IP...they the VPN has to send the notices to me in order to protect themselves and also get me to sign the letter so they can show they did their part in notifing me. I sent a message to trustzone asking them what they do to Copyright Infringement Notices but haven't heard anything back. If the VPN's receive these notices how do they protect themselves? I don't know if my VPN is keeping my information or not or if they will pass it on or not...but just wanted to pass on the info.

They refused the warrant ,then when they went to court because FBI sued to get records they discovered there wasn't any. on further investigation using an ip tracker i find this same info on 2 sites

IP address
Address type IPv4
Hostname opentrackr.org
ISP Online SAS
Timezone Europe/Paris (UTC+2)
Local time 11:55:13
Country France
State / Region Île-de-France

most torrents i download usually have the opentrackr attached to it. this is the only tracker thats flagged in peerblock

No avatarthey are trying to shill you into using a VPN from their supplier.
Something you NEVER want to do.... because if you leave it connected, the "entrance" & "exit" points have 100% access to all your traffic.
And if compelled by a court, they have to give up the data, so you can get shafted multiple times.

posted by Trusted UploaderSite FriendET loverGirl (2016-07-09 02:58:26)
Mulva1989 avatar@127 Razorcock
The entry point of the encrypted VPN tunnel would be on your own computer, so that's only yourself.. Even beyond your computer at the point of your router the traffic is already encrypted and inaccessible. So the entry point isn't really a problem unless you don't trust yourself in which case only a straight jacket will keep you safe.

It's true the exit point of the tunnel has acces to your traffic BUT, without a VPN, your 'exit point' would be your ISP. Now when given the choice, it's more likely that your ISP gives up your private information then a VPN provider who makes money SOLELY on protecting just that. Your ISP can afford to loose a few customers if the heat is on so to say (given all the DMCA letters that get sent out, its evident they don't even need a lot of heat to start giving up customers), but a VPN provider would go out of business the second they do this. Also since they are not internet providers there are a lot of rulings they don't have to comply with including keeping certain logs.

So it is strongly suggested that people who torrent DO use a VPN.

Renagade avatarI don't seem to understand the SELLING issue that E.T. are stating to every visitor.
For one, this topic is nearly 12 months old, and all's they seem to do is PUSH
to sell this Trust.Zone for a VPN, of which is NOT NEEDED.
YES, E.T will have a cut of the profits from the visitors who sign up, but it's not
really needed. We can all install an Extention in our Web-Browsers -
Chrome / FireFox / Opera / Edge - Even the old Internet Explorer allows it.
It's called ZenMate.
For Two, we are all aware that "Thanks" to the team of E.T. makes it possible for us
to enjoy free content 24/7, and E.T. has the VIP facility, of which is CRAP !
It's all down to the Uploaders who make this site available, because, if it wasn't
for THEM, there would be NO content ? RIGHT.
Nothing is safe on the NET, not even Trust.Zone !
A new VPN is being advertised on E.T. - !!!!
Same thing & the same issue, of which ZenMate will do for you FOR FREE.....
Just like the content on E.T. - Do you have to pay a few $'s / £'s to download any
content from E.T. ? NO !
So don't pay for a VPN, of I will state again - "YOU DO NOT NEED IT".
Use ZenMate for FREE.
Reading the comments here, not one registered member of E.T. has actually posted a
Copyright Infringement Notice of which Spectator "Tells Us What To Do If We Get One"
so don't be doubting yourself if you are due for one, they want the BIG BOY'S -
not the average Home User who downloads regularly, but keeps it for home / family use.
For Three. There is always the Torrent Stream Service like -" Popcorn-time ".
More content & you start watching it as it's connecting - then you stream it.
Free's up space on your device, and no more converting & waiting to burn to disc.
I just wish & hope a lot of you take heed to this, as it's a scare - mongering issue
that money will be made on every purchase, of which is NOT NEEDED.
Thanks. Renagade.

It's pretty evident that you really have no idea what you're talking about.. Anyway read up why you should not use Zenmate here:

As for other free VPN providers..
I don't even have to get into this matter.. In fact trying out a free VPN service is usually the best advertisement for paid services, since any serious user who is able to afford a paid VPN will learn within the first few days why it's free.. Aside from that using a VPN is to protect your privacy, reading the privacy policy of free VPN providers is another great advertisement for paid providers.

Anyhoe... Telling people paying for a VPN is not needed because you can get one for free is the same as telling jail inmates you don't need to pay for a defense lawyer because you can get a court-appointed lawyer for FREE! In a way that true ofcourse, but smart people won't be saying stuff like that.. and smart people definitely won't take heed of weird advice like that.

Since Trustzone tho no letters. However we have to turn off seeding and trustzone if we want to watch netflix. Trustzone blocks netflix apparently.

Manekineko avatarToo bad TrustZone doesn't provide Port Forwarding. So you have to live with a limited amount of connections.

No avatarComcast started getting annoying though. The alert kept popping up and would not go away until it was responded to.
Somehow it was alert #3 even though no one saw #1 or #2.

pvt avatarI've been using Trust.Zone for a couple weeks now and I've been very please with it's performance. It's a bit cumbersome to set up on MAC OS and iOS devices, but the set-up guide is bang on and once it's up and running with your server list it's very easy to use. I haven't used other VPN's, though still I am quite happy with the performance on most of the VPN servers offered, some are slower but others are impressively near what I'm getting at home without VPN. I'm using mostly Canada, USA and Germany for video/TV services and US or Canada for torrents. No complaints, the price is right and I don't think I would be willing to pay what the other services are asking. Keep it going and keep it affordable.

On my other media I use PIA to encrypt, and WebRTC Leak Prevent to stop IP leaks."

How do I turn on the peerblock, do I check the box or uncheck it?

TheSpider008 avatarVPN.AC .... (an ISO/IEC certified IT Security company for 15+ years that does VPN on the side [since ~2000]; based in Romania) i'll never use another provider as long as they provide service. they know their shit and they don't treat you like a customer but like a PERSON! great speeds of course and a few different Protocols to choose from. they also include an encrypted Browser "proxy" (pure TLS) with subscription. 75 servers (to date), rarely see any servers above 50% capacity, good price and even better when you catch discounts. try a 1week trial for $2 and i'm confident you'll like them.

bigturk avatarHere is an example of a copyright notice I received from Time Warner. What they did with me was to shut off the internet connection and sent me an email to call their fraud and security number to get it back. There you go through a bunch of denial and blame it on the grandkids and will certainly talk with them to stop. blah...blah...blah.
Here it is without my personal data.

Dear XXXXX XXXXXXXX (Primary Account Holder),
We have been notified that copyrighted content may have been shared using your internet connection without permission of the copyright owner. This is at least the 4th time a content owner has alerted us about your account.
Note that this alert is not being sent to you under the Copyright Alert System. We have sent you all the alerts required under the Copyright Alert System, and we were again notified by copyright owners that copyrighted content may have been shared using your internet connection without their permission. We will continue to alert you when we receive these notifications.
What does that mean?
Content owners (such as artists, moviemakers, authors) and their representatives routinely monitor peer-2-peer networks to see if their content (like music, movies, and TV shows) is shared without their permission (without it being paid for). If they notice somebody sharing their content without their permission through a Time Warner Cable account they let us know.
As the primary account holder, you are responsible for making sure your account is not used for copyright infringement. Please note that we don’t know which computer or other device may be the one to have triggered the notification; it could be any device using your account.
Are there dangers associated with using peer-to-peer (“P2P”) networks?
Yes, P2P program can pose dangers to your computer and our network. A computer can become accessible to a P2P network for an unlimited period of time after a P2P program is downloaded. You may not even be aware that such a program is on your computer as a child or visitor to your home could have downloaded it. Therefore, it is important that you inspect your computer for P2P programs and ensure that you are not either intentionally or inadvertently making copyrighted works available for uploading by others. These programs allow any anonymous person on the Internet to look at your computer files and copy them for themselves. This could lead to unwelcome activity, such as identity theft. Also, the programs, which use large amounts of memory, can interfere with the functioning of your computer by destabilizing your operating system, leading to general sluggishness at boot up and during operation. Also, P2P programs can contain spyware, adware, malware, viruses and pornography. Click here for more information about the various risks:
What was shared and when?
File Name: The Birth of a Nation 2016 HDCAM UnKnOwN
Content Type: Video
Content URL:
Shared: Nov 4 2016 5:35AM
Did you give them my personal information?
We have not shared any of your personal information with the content owner to help them find the files. The content owner simply provides us with an IP address and we contact you directly on their behalf.
Alright, so what do I need to do?
      · If you have been downloading or sharing content illegally please stop doing so immediately.
      · Make sure that everyone who uses your internet connection knows that you received this alert, and advise them not to make any illegal use of music, television and movie content. For information regarding authorized sources for music, movies, and TV shows, please see: Other examples of legal sources include: and
      · Secure your home wireless network so that nobody who is unauthorized to use it is able to do
so. (learn more here).
Hopefully this is the last time we contact you. If a copyright owner does not identify further instances of alleged copyright infringement involving your account, then this will be your last notice.
And what if this continues to happen?
Sharing content without the owner’s permission is a violation of U.S. copyright laws, and our acceptable use policy. Under the Copyright Alert System (for more on CAS click here:
In accordance with our acceptable use policy (located at your internet service may be subject to termination at our sole discretion if we continue to receive credible allegations that your internet connection has been used to share copyrighted content without permission of the copyright owner. Note that the termination of your internet service may also result in the loss of any Time Warner Cable provided email addresses; other services accessible via your Time Warner Cable high speed data service, such as Wi-Fi, Roku, IP Video, Over-the-Top content, etc.; and other third party provided services you receive that are internet reliant (for example, internet accessible third party phone services).
We will, of course, provide you with advance notice prior to taking any such steps.
Thank you for subscribing to Time Warner Cable’s high speed data service. We look forward to having you as a customer for years to come.

Mike_Oxhard avatarI prefer to use both a seedbox and a VPN.
If you're slightly paranoid, then make sure that both the seedbox and the VPN accept anonymous bit coin payments.
If you're real paranoid, get a no-contract "burner" smart phone that has lots of data and a hot-spot.
Purchase pre-paid cards with cash to pay for the phone, that way there's no billing address tied to the phone.
Use the phone's hot-spot to access your seed box through your VPN.
If you're super paranoid, be sure to wear your tinfoil hat whenever you download.
