Facebook’s policy director, Simon Milner, has accused parents in the United Kingdom of helping their children to start a Facebook account before they turn 13. As such, they bypass the minimum age restriction for signing up to Facebook. The accusations were voiced before a parliamentary committee looking into issues surrounding children’s use of the worldwide web. The matter is that the committee raised concerns about 8-year-olds having Facebook profiles. The company explained that it was difficult to police when parents allowed and helped their children to create an account.
Facebook’s senior executive for the UK and Ireland, the Middle East, Africa and Turkey pointed out that there were not many 8-year-olds on Facebook, but there were many 10- and 12-year-olds pretending to be older. Facebook does its best to ensure that Internet users are aware of Facebook’s age restriction and to enforce it. But there is a problem in the UK, where many parents decide to allow their underage children to create Facebook profiles under a false age.
Facebook claimed that the safety of its users is a priority, particularly those under 18. It employed hundreds of safety experts and cooperated with other safety organizations. For example, when a young person on Facebook appeared to be at risk of self-harm or suicide, Facebook could intervene and even go as far as to alert the local police.
Aside from the underage users issue, Facebook and Google representatives were asked about the “fake news” problem, which could have influenced the outcome of the election, and about the “right to be forgotten” ruling and how it was being implemented.

Parents that allow this are stupid no way in a million years would let mine on at that age
most parents don't monitor their children's computer use that closely. it's a simple matter for a youngster to lie about their age & create a profile. most kids are computer literate at a young age these days.
Anyone proficient enough to start an account is by that very definition able to lie whilst starting an account.

Interesting thing about Facebook is the fact they continually delete 'inappropriate content' their definition of it anyway. So just who are the 'fake news' sites anyway. How about ABC, CBS, NBC, MSN, CNN and all the other 'media' groups that aspire to be inside the Clinton Crime Syndicate.
By the way I am not a Republican I have been called an independent I am really a Anarchist. I do not like anyone telling me what to do.
I once watched a story about an incident that happened in the territories of Israel. I first watched it in hebrew on the national TV news, I then watched it on BBC news and I then watched it on FOX news, I even waited in vain hope for the CNN news to at least be somewhat similar to the FOX version. From that point on I chose not to believe any news casts at all unless provided with backup with my own eyes. If aliens landed tomorrow then I would need a firm podshake from the captain and an ice cold beverage in the ships bar before I believed it. So totally has the trust from me to heed media bias and spin been removed.
